Charging MooseWritten on September 1, 1999. By David Jack In the past I have told you about some of my experiences with wild animals. However not all of my encounters have been positive. One morning, a few years ago, I found a large bull moose, just as the sun was coming up. I followed him around in the bush for a few hours and he gave me no indication that he was bothered by my proximity to him (at times I was only a few feet away). Then I made an almost fatal mistake. I placed myself directly in his path. This is not the safest thing to do to a wild animal that weighs about 400kgs. The bull charged me and I had no place to hide. Luckily for me the animal stopped his charge a few feet away from me. I learned a valuable lesson that day. No matter how well you think you understand wild animals, never let your guard down and always keep a safe distance.
